Blue Line Bandits, one of the more chill youth-hockey clubs around Columbus, is opening spring tryouts to anyone in U10 (Squirts) or U12 (Pee Wees). No pre-reg, no commitment beyond showing up. They're trying to fill three roster spots and want to see who's around.

When: Thursday April 30, 6:30 PM and Thursday May 7, 6:30 PM at Chiller Dublin. Cost: $20 per skater per session, paid at the door. Bring: full equipment, water bottle, and a parent who's read the schedule.

What the coaches actually look for

Per head coach Steve Lowery, the Bandits aren't picking the fastest skater in the room. They're picking kids who pass, kids who backcheck without being told, and kids who look like they had fun the entire 50 minutes. "We can teach the rest," he said.
